Beginner Pilates in Stockport
Never done Pilates? Start here. Our Stockport studio on Great Underbank runs beginner reformer classes throughout the week, and most people who walk in for the first time have never used a reformer before.
This page explains exactly what happens in your first class, what to bring, what it costs, and what to expect in your first month — so nothing about your first visit is a surprise.
Best way to start
3 classes for £45 · 4th free with a Google review
£11.25 per class.
What happens in your first class
Arrive 15 minutes early. Your coach introduces you to the reformer — carriage, footbar, straps and springs — and sets your resistance before the class begins. You keep grip socks on throughout.
The class runs roughly 45 minutes of continuous, low-impact movement. Nothing is rushed, every exercise has an easier option, and you are welcome to stop, rest and rejoin at any point. That is normal, not a failure.
Book Reform — Basics first
Basics is the beginner class: lower intensity, more explanation, and time spent on the fundamentals before pace is added. Two or three Basics classes are usually enough before Reform SLT feels comfortable.
If you would rather ease in with less equipment, Mobility is a slower, gentler session focused on range of motion rather than intensity.
What it costs to try
Three classes for £45 is the beginner route — around £15 a class, dropping to £11.25 with the free fourth class you get for leaving us a Google review. It is deliberately priced so you can make an informed decision rather than an expensive guess.
After that, memberships start at £79 a month for four classes, and class packs are available if your schedule is unpredictable.
Common beginner worries, answered honestly
- "I'm not fit enough" — Springs are adjusted to you. Fitness is what you build here, not what you bring.
- "I'll look silly" — Everyone in the room is concentrating on their own carriage. Coaches correct quietly and individually.
- "I have a bad back" — Tell your coach before class. Movements can be adapted. If a clinician has advised against exercise, wait until they clear you.
- "I can't commit to a membership" — You don't have to. Packs and the intro offer exist for exactly this reason.
